Cultural Awareness & Giveaway Series

Wed Jan 29th kicks off the Lunar New Year.  This Wood Snake year is expected to bring growth & connection. Let its wisdom guide us to new heights in 2025.
A series of giveaways will take place around key festivals, highlighting and celebrating the diversity in Asian cuisine & culture.
The first giveaway celebrates Lunar New Year and anchors on what makes hotpot so popular in Asian and Gen Z culture.

Hotpot sizzles at the heart of Asian culture as a culinary metaphor for unity, blending history, community, and flavor into a single simmering pot.

In China
, its roots stretch back over 2,000 years to Mongolian horsemen who boiled meat in helmets, evolving into regional staples like Sichuan’s fiery
má là broth and Beijing’s mild mutton fondue, all served in circular pots symbolizing harmony and familial bonds.

Korean
jeongol, once a royal court dish, emphasizes communal simmering of ingredients like gochugaru-spiced beef or kimchi, reflecting Confucian values of shared meals and hierarchy.

Japan’s shabu-shabu, born in 1950s Osaka, transforms dining into theater with its onomatopoeic “swish” of thinly sliced meat in konbu broth—a modern twist on Mongol-inspired cooking that prioritizes both precision and connection.

Across these cultures, hotpot transcends mere sustenance: it’s a ritual where generations gather, grievances dissolve over bubbling broths, and the act of sharing a meal becomes a celebration of collective identity.
