Fortune + cookies for you:
Mid-Autumn festival falls on the 15th of the eighth month of the year, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest. Just like Thanksgiving for the western world, it is an important celebration where families gather to be thankful for the harvest.
There are different traditions, ranging from children walking around with lanterns, sharing mooncakes (pastry made in the shape of a full moon filled with lotus seed paste and 1-2 salty duck egg yolks), to eating pomelos.
Rather than offering heavy and traditional mooncakes, we want something light and fun – thus FORTUNE COOKIES. Pick your fortune and eat a locally made cookie.
Many of us are apart from our loved ones. As Chinese poet Su-Shi wrote:
“Humans have sorrows, joys, partings, and reunions;
The moon, likewise, can be dim, bright, half, and full. It was never perfect since the beginning.
May we be blessed with longevity!
Even when thousand miles apart, we can view the same moon and enjoy its beauty together.”
