Arctic Freeze Wrecks Havoc in Houston
February 2021 is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most Texans — Arctic-Freeze. Snow in Houston. Rolling Blackout. Power Outage. Water Outage. Losses of lives and properties.
Days after are tough as well. With millions of homes with frozen and busted pipes, hardware stores ran out of plumbing supplies. Long queues to buy grocery and repair materials. Weeks of waits for plumbing services. The saddest to witness is when homes are out of water, there are wasted water everywhere from busted pipes. We are grateful to our service providers and tenants (a shout out to Bubble Egg) who have gone out of their ways to help us with repairs, ensuring water is directed to where needed (and not wasted).
Houstonians have witnessed 500-year rare natural disasters — Harvey in 2017 and now this arctic freeze in 2021. We are resilient and we will rebuild our community.
Delivery of Hot Meals to Families in the Cold
In times of needs are when leadership and character stand out — On Thurs Feb 18, when millions of homes are still without power and water, Texas State Rep Gene Wu and Miya Shay led a team of volunteers including Judge Israel B Garcia Jr to deliver hot meals to families struggling with the cold.
4 Tenants in Diho Square prepared ~400 hot meals. A special thank you to Chef Ting (Welcome’s hot food kitchen), Dim Sum King, Kuen Noodle House, Shanghai Restaurant for dedicating an entire afternoon to serve our community and for filling every single meal box to the rim.
In the traditional days, one would “deliver coal in snow”; in the modern days, we serve our communities by “delivery hot meal in freezing cold”.
