Houston’s Mounted Patrol Unit

Do you know – a police on a horse is as effective as 10 officers when it comes to crowd control?

In addition, mounted patrol unit offers increased visibility and improved community relationship.  At D-Square shopping center today, many queued up to take pictures with the officers and horses.  Lots of smiles, lots of interaction, lot of community relationship building.  Many great, fun pictures were taken (unfortunately, we did not ask for the rights to post them, so can only share the serious ones here).

Another interesting knowledge:  The Mounted Patrol Unit was established in the late 1980s.  It is part of the Strategic Operations, Homeland Security Command, and Special Operations Division.   They can be seen patrolling at large scale events and Houston downtown area.

HPD Storefront (Asiatown Branch)

HPD’s Asiatown branch is located at D-Square shopping center.  In a community where English is many’s second language, the HPD Asiatown storefront has officers who speak Mandarin and Cantonese.   For location and hours, click here.
